Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) - Varicose Vein Treatment

Our Board Certified physicians utilize Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to treat unsightly and often painful varicose veins.

A small catheter is inserted into the bulging leaky vein, that is often deeper than one can see on the surface. When the desired placement is reached, the radio frequency tip is activated and becomes a heat source. The leaky vein is essentially eliminated using the heat applied by radiofrequency. There are a few restrictions involved in the post care of the RF ablation, but most patients are back to work after two day. The goal of this procedure is to eliminate the leaky vein, therefore eliminating the symptoms the leaky vein may have been causing: leg pain, leg swelling, leg fatigue. The symptomatic varicose veins may be removed in the same setting using microphlebectomy.

Sclerotherapy - Spider Vein Treatment

Simple and fast outpatient procedure for the treatment of spider veins.

Sclerotherapy is the treatment of small varicose veins/spider veins – A small amount of polidocanol, a medication, is injected into the spider vein. The medication causes the walls of the veins to become sticky and then heal on itself, resulting in the vein collapse. After healing, the injected vein should no longer be visible. This process might need to be repeated 3-5 session, until the desired outcome is achieved. This clinic has done spider veins on the legs, abdomen, and chest. Sclerotherapy medication can also be converted to foam, allowing larger veins to be injected and closed. There is very minimal recovery time, but there are some suggested restrictions to achieve the best outcome.

VenaSeal™

Quick outpatient procedure that treats varicose veins using a special adhesive.

VenaSeal™ is an excellent treatment option for varicose veins. It uses a special medical adhesive delivered via a narrow catheter to close the vein, which eventually shrinks and disappears. This unique approach protects against the risk of nerve injury or skin burns, which is an uncommon risk associated with specific thermal-based procedures. This procedure also has the added benefit of requiring no compression stockings after the procedure, and you can return to normal activities quickly after your appointment.

Varithena®

A special microform is delivered via injection to treat varicose veins.

Varithena® is a minimally invasive treatment option for varicose veins that uses a special microfoam delivered via injection that causes the diseased vein to collapse and blood to flow to healthier nearby veins.

Microphlebectomy

A minimally invasive procedure to completely remove diseased varicose veins.

This procedure entails small punctures overlying the bulging vein, and in small segments the varicose vein being pulled out. Most patients are very pleased with the result, the lumpy, and sometimes painful varicose vein disappears.

Conservative Management - Compression Stockings

Conservative therapy includes wearing graduated compression stockings daily. Compression stockings are recommended for everyone daily and come in custom sizes to provide maximum benefit. They are beneficial in slowing the progression of venous reflux. They act as outward pressure on the veins, to keep them from becoming filled with blood that is leaking.

Ovarian Vein Embolization

Minimally invasive treatment for Pelvic Congestion Syndrome.

Pelvic Congestion Syndrome is where a woman has varicose veins within her pelvis, often originating from the left ovarian vein. These varicose veins can be symptomatic, causing pelvic pain or heaviness, but often do not cause any symptoms. Pelvic congestion is sometimes discovered while investigating varicose veins in the legs, and found when a varicose vein originates higher than the groin area. Symptoms that are suspicious for pelvic congestion are: pelvic pain/heaviness, vaginal varicose veins, painful intercourse, and back pain with periods. Pelvic congestion syndrome is treated using a minimally invasive, nonsurgical vascular procedure, that closes and eliminates the leaking veins in the pelvis. The procedure is done under x-ray and the leaking veins are eliminated using a blocking medication or a coil.

Varicocele Embolization

Minimally invasive treatment for Varicose Veins In male genitalia.

A varicocele is a varicose vein found in the scrotum. It is thought that leaving a varicocele untreated can lead to immobile and low sperm count, possibly causing fertility problems. Also, if left untreated the testicle can atrophy, or shrink. Symptoms of a varicocele include scrotal pain/heaviness, and potentially scrotal itching. We treat symptomatic varicoceles using a noninvasive endovascular outpatient procedure. The procedure uses x-ray to guide a catheter into the leaking vein and occlude it using a blocking medication or a coil, eliminating the leaking vein. Recovery for this procedure is very short, and symptoms usually improve quickly.
